UN Security Council condemns Kadirgamar's assassination
The UN Security Council President condemning the brutal assassination
of Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar says:
The members of the Security Council strongly condemn this senseless
act of terrorism. We expect that the case will be speedily investigated
and the perpetrators, organisers and their sponsors brought to justice.
"The members of the Security Council express their condolences and
sympathy to his family and the people of Sri Lanka.
The Security Council call on the parties concerned to implement fully
the provisions of the Ceasefire Agreement and to continue their dialogue
in order to attain sustainable peace and stability in the country," the
message said. The presidency of the UN Security Council rotates every
month and Japan is currently serving as its president during the month
of August. |
