300 employees in Census and Statistics Department confirmed
A batch of 300 data entry operators/coding clerks attached to the
Department of Census and Statistics on a casual basis have been absorbed
into the permanent cadre of the Department with effect from August 1 on
the initiative of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
A press release issued by the Presidential Media Unit said these data
entry operators/coding clerks have been recruited to the Department on a
casual basis over the past five years since 1999 for the performance of
essential and emergency official duties. The President who considered
the need to confirm these casual employees in their posts to facilitate
the efficient functioning of the Department with ever increasing daily
activities got a Cabinet Memorandum approved to grant them job
permanency.
In keeping with this Cabinet memorandum approval to create 300
permanent posts of data entry operators/coding clerks in the Census and
Statistics Department was obtained from the Department of Management
Services.
After examining the nature of official duties connected to this post
and the qualifications specified in the relevant recruitment procedure
the said 300 data entry operators/coding clerks were given permanent
letters of appointment with effect from 1-8-2005.
The Government hopes that the settlement of this problem relating to
these 300 casual employees on the instructions of the President would
enable the Department to fulfil its special duties and tasks in and
efficient and fruitful manner. |
