Bigger delegation expected for Magic Show in Las Vegas
A bigger delegation is expected to take part in the Magic Show in Las
Vegas, one of the largest international trade fairs in August. The
Government plans to counter, challenges faced by the Apparel industry
due to the termination of multi fibre agreement in 2005 by activating in
similar aggressive marketing plan for the apparel trade.
Around 3,000 manufacturers and marketers participate at the Magic
Show with 95,000 attendees and 65% of them being buyers. Among the
buyers who visit the show are small, large, and wholesaler categories
with 6,000 elite buyers from the US. The Minister of Advanced Technology
and National Enterprise Development Rohitha Bogollagama leading a
Parliamentary Delegation to the United States met senior officials of
the Magic Show organisers on Monday in Los Angeles after an inspection
tour of the Las Vegas Convention centre the venue of Magic Show.
The Minister said that arrangements are being made to have a bigger
presence at the show in August. Minister plans to have a separate Sri
Lanka pavilion at the Magic Show. This will be the first time that Sri
Lanka is having it's own pavilion at the show. "In the post Tsunami
scenario Sri Lanka can be promoted if we have the right approach,"
Minister Bogollagama said.
Meanwhile arrangements are being made to feature gift items made in
Sri Lanka at the California Gift Show in January next year. This comes
as part of a major product promotion drive in the West Coast of the USA
initiated by Minister Bogollagama.
The Minister also met the California Gift Show organisers on Monday
and discussions with show organisers, in order to arrange participation
of Sri Lankan manufacturers of handcrafted and other gift items in the
California Gift Show in January 2006. An exclusive Sri Lanka pavilion is
to be set up.
Small and Medium Entrepreneurs who produce gift items will be
encouraged by the Government to take part at the California Gift Show. |
