Security for LTTE cadres: Govt proposals being studied
by Ananth Palakidnar
The new set of proposals prepared by the Government to reach a
settlement over the LTTE's transport issue in the North and East is now
being studied in Killinochchi, informed sources said.
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission sent the new proposals to
killnochchi soon after the top level discussion at the Defence Ministry
on Monday.
The three Service Chiefs, Head of the Peace secretariat Dr. Jayantha
Danapala and the SLMM chief Hagrup Haukland took part in the discussion
Monday, where the security for the LTTE cadres while they travel in the
Government controlled areas in the North and East was discussed.
A new set of proposals were prepared by the Government to be sent to
the LTTE.
The SLMM spokesperson was reluctant to reveal the new Government
proposals, saying the ball was on the LTTE's court. Reports from
Kilinochchi said the Government's proposals were being studied and the
LTTE's stance would be disclosed as early as possible.
The SLMM spokesperson said settling the transport issue would help
stabilise the Ceasefire. |
