Ninewells to invest Rs. 500 million for expansion

Ninewells Care Mother and Baby Hospital (Pvt) Ltd, (NCBMHL) would invest over Rs. 500 million for its second phase of expansion to add 150 beds for specialised services in the hospital. The two-year construction plan will further enhance Ninewells as a specialised mother care, baby care and fertility hospital in Sri Lanka's private medical services industry.

The hospital which broke new ground as a centre for personalised 'home away from home' medical services in an initial Rs. 180 million investment offering medical services to international standards, is confident of a greater future demand. "This is why we decided to re-invest with total local funds," said Chairman, NCBMHL Dr. Rohana Hathotuwa.

"The investments establishing ourselves as a totally Sri Lankan venture with world-class specialized medical services, Ninewells has already earned a reputation and a stamp of class, he added. The planned expansion will feature 25 normal and luxury rooms and a new ward with other facilities such as lounge, cafeteria and parking spaces to compliment the enhanced client intake.

The hospital maintains a focus on comprehensive mothercare, baby care and fertility care services from counselling, ongoing antenatal services to labour and delivery, surgery and critical care services. Ninewells also offers day surgery services in mother care where patients could have the surgery performed and leave within the same day.

The layout of the hospital has been well-planned to truly deliver its 'home away from home' promise with cafeteria, spacious garden, rooftop garden, cleaning services, security and ample parking space.

In addition, the hospital conducts special clinics for family planning, well-woman check-ups, Endocrinology, cancer prevention, child development, vaccination, breast-feeding, dietary advice and pre-birth courses.

A special focus has also been made to compliment its human expertise with infrastructure such as 3D scanners, pharmacy, emergency surgeries and special baby care facilities.

Ninewells hopes the planned second stage expansion will help further instill itself as a hospital dedicated for comprehensive mother and baby care.
