LTTE attacks continue in East
 

ONE Police officer and a civilian were killed and six others including two civilians were injured as the LTTE continued its attacks on Special Task Force and Police personnel on Thursday at Akkaraipattu, Kalmunai and Pandirippu areas, Police and Military sources said yesterday.

The LTTE carried out their attacks on Police and STF personnel at three different place in Ampara on Thursday.

The suspected LTTE cadres opened fire at Police foot patrol of four Policemen, deployed in view of the security of the annual feast of the Panama kovil around 11.40 pm on Thursday killing one Police officer.

Reserve Police Constable M. Weerasinghe was killed on the spot in LTTE gunfire. One youth injured in the crossfire between the Policemen and the LTTE near the Bank of Ceylon Building at Pottuvil town succumbed to his injuries on admission to Pottuvil hospital, Police said.

The body of the Police officer and the unidentified youth were taken to the Pottuvil hospital. The two bodies were to be taken to Ampara for the post mortem yesterday afternoon, Police added.

In another incident one home guard and two civilians were injured as suspected LTTE cadres on a motorbike lobbed a hand grenade at a road block at a heavily populated Pandirippu area in the Kalmunai Police Division around 7.40 on Thursday.

Home Guard S.A. Susantha Kumara and the two civilians Naleen Udaya Kumara and Abdul Cader Ameen injured in the incident were admitted to Ashraff hospital in Kalmunai.
