Deputy Minister commends UNDP's role in Lanka
UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka Miguel Bermeo, met the
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Wiswa Warnapala at the Foreign
Ministry Office recently.
The Deputy Minister highly commended the various assistance given by
the UNDP for economic development in Sri Lanka and said this assistance
has helped Sri Lanka in time of difficulties and sustain its economy.
He also emphasized the immeasurable cooperation given by the UNDP
during the tsunami disaster and appreciated the good work performed by
the UNDP here in post tsunami construction process.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is UN's global
development organ, continuously advocating for change and connecting
countries to knowledge and experience and help people to build a better
life.
It has very successfully extended its worldwide wing to 166
countries. UNDP assistance is mainly focused on five areas: (a) peace
and transitional recovery (b) democratic governance and human rights (c)
poverty reduction (d) energy, environment and disaster risk management
(e) HIV/AIDS. |
