Timber Corp introduces human resource plan, training program for
employees
BY FLORENCE Wickramage
THE State Timber Corporation (STC) has resolved a long outstanding
problem in its managerial sphere by introducing a Human Resource Plan
and a Training and Development program for its employees.
STC Chairman Fuard Ghany said 2,510 fully paid employees are attached
to the Corporation showing an excess of the approved cadre of 1917
employees.
These employees are unconfirmed in their respective posts due to the
Department of Management Services not approving a proposed new cadre. In
addition, there are politically based 400 Trainee Employees outside the
permanent cadre.
These appointments had been made outside the Scheme of Recruitment
resulting in a lack of qualified and experienced personnel to handle
various functions in the organisational structure of the Corporation.
On the advice of Environment and Natural Resources Minister A.H.M.
Fowzie, Chairman and Managers of the Corporation have drawn up a revised
Human Resource Plan taking into consideration the Corporation's
Corporate plan and the manpower and skill needed for STC's various
functions.
In keeping with the new Human Resource Plan, the STC will revamp the
administration structures of its network of 12 regional offices, 45
sales depots and 10 sawmills with the Head Office operating from "Sampathpaya"
at Battaramulla, Ghany said.
Meanwhile a new cadre proposed by the STC has been forwarded to the
Department of Management Services for approval. |
