FCCISL launches Sri Lankan Entrepreneur 2004

THE Sri Lankan Entrepreneur 2004 event was launched last Monday at the Galadari Hotel.

The event is organised to recognise, reward and motivate Sri Lankan entrepreneurs to optimise their entrepreneurial skills, to reach the highest echelons of achievement with reverberating benefit to the national economy.

The award scheme now in its 10th year, is organised by Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), along with its 47 member chambers which has long recognised the need to honour Sri Lanka's most outstanding entrepreneurs at provincial and national level for their contribution towards the socio-economic development of the country.

As the only award program in Sri Lanka that recognises regional entrepreneurs, the event is staged at two levels. The provincial level where regional entrepreneurs are recognised at regional awards ceremonies that would be held in every province, will be followed by the national event.

The sectoral categories would be agriculture, industry and service. The contestant enterprises will be grouped into micro, small, medium, large and extra large categories.

The highlight of "Sri Lankan Entrepreneur 2004" will be the special awards for the tsunami affected entrepreneurs located in coastal districts of Sri Lanka. Tsunami affected entrepreneurs can apply under this special category and awards will be given at provincial and national levels.

Evaluation will be based on demonstrated entrepreneurial qualities following the tsunami in rebuilding their enterprises in terms of speed and restoration. The application form will contain a specific section for this category.

However, a unique feature is that the tsunami affected businesses would also be eligible for the normal categories if they can meet the relevant criteria as well. There will be three special awards under tsunami affected category, in each province.

All the eligible applications will be evaluated under the respective province for the provincial awards. Provincial winners will be recognised at regional awards ceremonies.

The closing date for entry would be September 30, 2005.

The media sponsor for Sri Lankan Entrepreneur 2004 is the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL).
