Prof. J.N.O. Fernando honoured

SCIENTIST Professor J.N. Oleap Fernando was honoured at the ceremonial opening of the J.N.O. Fernando Hall at the Institute of Chemistry and College of Chemical Sciences building in Rajagiriya on June 28.

A portrait of Prof. Fernando done in oils by President-elect of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, Mevan Pieris was unveiled by Chief Guest Bishop of Colombo Rt. Revd. Duleep de Chikera.

Dr. Lakshmi Arambewela, President of the Institute of Chemistry, gave the welcome address and Emeritus Professor Nalini Ratnasiri, the Guest of Honour, spoke admiringly of Prof. Fernando's untiring efforts in the cause of science, of chemical education and of education in general.

Professor Gunaherath, from the Open University proposed the Vote of Thanks. Dr. R.D. Gunaratne, another Thomian and the Master of Ceremonies, acquitted himself very well with scientific precision.
