NHDA spends Rs. 80m for 6,400 beneficiary families in Kandy
The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will spend Rs. 81
million to cater to the housing requirements of 6,400 families in Kandy
district in 2005. Out of these, more than 1,000 families will receive
housing loans and grants and another 500 beneficiaries will receive
roofing sheets to construct their own houses with the financial
assistance of the NHDA.
This was revealed at a progress review meeting held at the Kandy
Housing Secretariat recently presided over, by NHDA Chairman, Parakrama
Karunaratne.
The NHDA commenced district program in Kandy to improve the living
condition of 500 estate worker families. In reference to NHDA
performances in the past, it was disclosed that 6,700 families in the
Kandy district received Rs. 946 million to construct and upgrade their
houses during the last 25 years.
After the meeting, the chairman accompanied by officials, made a
field visit to Keheliyagama model village, Hantana and Pallekele middle
class housing schemes. More than 250 low income families in Hewaheta
electorate were received roofing sheets from the chairman at a function
held at the Hantana housing scheme.
NHDA Deputy General Manager Amarasinghe K. Jinadasa and Nimal
Chandrasiri and NHDA District Manager, Seeladasa Kapukotuwa also
participated.
