CICA holds the ASIAN Development Cup

Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association CICA has taken another step to develop the sport that has taken Sri Lanka by a storm as they hold the Asian Development Cup 2005 at the Astasia International Sports Complex Thalawathugoda.

With 5 teams participating including India A and the Asian Development Squad which include players from Sri Lanka and India will lock horns to win the coveted Asian Development Cup in the next few days.

CICA who has taken a major step towards taking the games to the outer parts of Colombo will field squads from Kurunegala, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya in this tournament giving them the much needed International Exposure to those players to reach the next level.

Mr. Sarvanan, Manager of the India 'A' team was very exited to see his players performing in Sri Lanka and said that this is a rare opportunity for his players to compete against the experience teams.

The tournament got under way with the teams being introduced to the former Sri Lankan cricket stars Brendon Kuruppu and Romesh Rathnayake. This was another life time opportunity for the players who are involved in this tournament as they were given few tips by the former Sri Lankan greats and currently the brain trust of the Asian Cricket Academy in Thalawathugoda.

The Indian teams will travel to Kegalle on July 4 to participate in a one day tournament against some Kegalle teams where the next Hutch Indoor Cricket Mela will be held.

Hutchison Telecom the proud Sponsor of the Indoor Cricket Mela has given CICa a great opportunity to find players for the outstation.

Already it has paid massive dividends according to the head of the technical committee Gamini Perera. He also said that the contribution Hutch has made to indoor cricket is enormous as far as spreading the game right around the country.

The Asian Development Indoor Cricket Cup was held on round robin basis and the semi finals yesterday with the finals and the closing ceremony tomorrow.

The other attraction will be the mixed match with 4 boys and four girls from India playing against the Sri Lankan development Squad who also will have A mixed team which will have girls from the Kurunegala Development Squad.
