Guardians requested to register tsunami children victims before July 13

Every person, institution or organisation holding guardianship of a child who had lost one or both parents in the tsunami should register themselves with the Commissioner of Probation and Childcare Services.

All applications for registration should be submitted to the commissioner directly or through the Divisional Secretary of the area where the child is resident on or before July 13 this year.

A press release issued by the Government Information Department said the failure to obtain such registration without any valid reason would be an offence punishable with a jail term for a period not exceeding two years.

This would not apply to persons who have made representations to the National Child Protection Authority or any other organisation or obtained guardianship of a child under some other legislation after December 26, 2004.

The necessary application forms for registration could be obtained from the office of the Commissioner of Probation and Childcare Services, LHP building No.150A Nawala Road, Nugegoda.

The National Child Protection Authority at 330, Thalawathugoda Road, Madiwela, Sri Jayewardenepura, offices of the Regional Commissioners of Probation and Child Care Services or the Divisional Secretariats in the tsunami affected areas.
