Permanent appointments for 147 graduates

A batch of 147 graduates who have been undergoing in-service training amalgamated to the Education Ministry received permanent appointments in the public service yesterday. They received their letters of appointment from Ministry Secretary Dr. Tara de Mel at a ceremony at the Ministry auditorium yesterday.

A host of senior Education Ministry officials attended the ceremony.

A Ministry release said this was a fruition of the government's national policy of obtaining the contribution of graduates who were languishing in unemployment with uncertain hopes to the nation rebuilding effort.

On the directive of the President a batch of 20000 graduates out of a total of 42,000 graduates recruited for government service were taken into the Education sector which holds special significance in the sphere of human resources development. Of these 20,000 a batch of 17,000 were recruited to the teaching service and the balance for eduction development management activities.
