P-TOMS will help tsunami affected people - President

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said that the P-TOMS will help facilitate the lives of the innocent people affected by the tsunami and that the lands in those areas will not be given to any body or any group.

The President made this observation presiding at a convention of Sri Lanka Freedom Graduates' Federation and the Sri Lanka Freedom Students' Federation at the President's House yesterday. The President further said that the SLFP was founded in 1951 by late S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and it came into power in 1956 with the help of the Five Major Sectors (Sanga, Weda, Guru, Govi, Kamkaru). She said that today, the SLFP absorbed the Sri Lankan Students' Federation into the party in a formal manner.

The Students' Federation presented President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga a memento for the services she rendered to the Sri Lanka Students' Federation and to the Education sector of the country. The memento was presented to President Kumaratunga by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Tourism Industry and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike, Finance and Planing Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Graduates' Association Lal Dissanayake also addressed the gathering.
