Beruwala beach cleaned up

THE Beruwela Beach underwent a dramatic makeover on Friday (24). Identified by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and the Beruwela Hoteliers Association as a strip of beach in need of a dramatic makeover, a "clean and green" effort was undertaken to bring the beach back to its golden glory.

Armed with clean up gear, representatives from the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and the Beruwela Hoteliers Association worked hand-in-hand with Tourists and the community of the area, to comb, clean an approximate 3km stretch of beach.

The Hotels in the area have undertaken the responsibility to maintain the quality of the beach, with an assurance to carry out frequent clean up programmes.

The activity, spearheaded by Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board Udaya Nanayakkara and Palitha Wijeyamanne, President of the Beruwela Hoteliers Association, is one of a number of "clean and green" efforts carried out by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.

On the week of June 20 to 24 the Sri Lanka Tourist Board's Domestic Campaign team clean up the sacred site of Mihintale - facilitating domestic tourists to carry out religious activities in the original pristine beauty of the area.
