MEP disagrees with P-TOMS
The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP)in a media release yesterday
categorically announced their disagreement with the Post Tsunami
Operational Management Structure entered into between the Government of
Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
The LTTE is a terrorist organization banned in many international
communities like the USA and India. Even after adopting a Ceasefire
Agreement with the Government, the LTTE ignored all international
democratic norms and proceeded with their own strategy of killing
political opponents, civilians, army personnel specially belonging to
the intelligence unit, child conscriptions, improvement of military
infrastructure facilities and declared itself as the sole representative
of the Tamil Community. All these are acts which were outright
violations of the Ceasefire Agreement not less than 2800 instances, the
media release recounted.
"The recently signed P-TOMS treats the two provinces of North and
East as one entity, while ignoring the large number of residents who
belong to the Muslim and Sinhala communities that form the majority.
These citizens are subjugated to the LTTE rule against their will. This
situation is clearly to usurp their democratic human rights. Moreover,
the basic function of Financial Control of the Special Fund is vested
entirely with the Regional Committee which has to be construed as an
abdication of Government responsibilities in favour of the LTTE. Under
these circumstances the MEP, as a constituent party to the United
People's Freedom Alliance which pledged the unity, security, sovereignty
and territorial integrity of the country cannot agree to implement the
P-TOMS and urge all concerned to unite to formulate an alternative
reiterated the MEP media announcement. |
