Bold step by President to implement P-TOMS - District Journalist

It was a bold step of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to have implement the P-TOMS programme, said the patron of Kegalle District Journalists' Association T. Gunarathne.

He said that over 80 per cent of the public throughout the country are supporting this "Joint Mechanism plan" and only a few groups whose only plans are to get political mileage were against its implantation.

Gunarathna said it was quite appropriate that the masses could not be hoodwinked by the false and malicious propaganda against "Joint Mechanism" by those destructive forces who made big agitations against it and the government and that soon most of them who opposed, including a section of the buddhist clergy and the chauvinists and the "extremists" will realize that the implementation of "P-TOMS" is indeed a necessity in bringing out peace and friendly co-existence among all ethnic groups in the country.

Kegalle Journalists' Association patron Gunarathna said the foreign donors will now have confidence and absolute trust in the government and that the foreign aid will flow into the country paving the way for economic development in all aspects.
