SPJD helps tsunami affected areas in Sri Lanka
Relief and assistance items were donated mainly from local
governments of Japan, collected, delivered and distributed by the
Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy (SPJD). The Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Japan funded total project cost of JPY 6.5 million.
47.5 tons of food items were provided to the tsunami affected
families in Sri Lanka. Biscuits, crackers, survival foods (dried stew),
infant milk and baby food were donated originally from 11 local
governments in and around Tokyo, carried in by 3 vans of 40ft container.
Among the other items provided were seventy units of bicycles for the
students to go to school, donated as second hand from Koto City, Tokyo,
with collaboration from another NGO, the Bicycle Parking Facilities
Development and Management Foundation, Tokyo, Japan, a one water
purification machine and a portable water purification machine donated
from Toyota City. The value of the machine itself is JPY 2,500,000 total
unit JPY 3.5 million including accessories. |
