Ladies-Bishop's clash for Janashakthi Trophy

THE annual hockey encounter between Ladies College and Bishops College sponsored by Janashakthi Insurance Company Ltd. will be played at the Astro Turf, off Reid Avenue, Colombo 7 today. There will be 2 matches played between the 2 schools, the Under 17 match commencing at 2.00 p.m. and followed by the Under 19 match.

The Ladies College U-17 team is captained by Amandi Caldera while the U-19 team is skippered by Saakidhya Manohara. The Bishop's College U-17 team will be captained by Thakshala Tissera and the U-19 team by Vidhushie Samson.

According to Mrs. Nirmalie Wickramasinghe, Principal, Ladies College this encounter was inaugurated in 1995 but did not continue thereafter for various reasons including the lack of generous sponsorship since an event of this nature need substantial funds.

"We are indeed very thankful to Janashakthi Insurance for coming forward to revive an event of this nature between 2 leading girls schools in the country.

Both Ladies and Bishops have produced national pool level hockey players and we have no doubt that this annual encounter will help produce players of national calibre," added Mrs. Wickramasinghe.

Mrs. Wickramasinghe concluded by saying: "I've no doubt that this encounter will be a great success and the revival of this annual encounter will further enhance the traditional camaraderie that exist between Ladies' and Bishop's Colleges."
