Six nabbed with counterfeit notes

THE Special Investigation Unit of the Central Region DIG Office yesterday arrested six suspects including three believed to be LTTEers from unliberated areas. They were in the possession of a haul of counterfeit notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 denominations.

The other three suspects were alleged to be residents of Kandy. Police also recovered from one suspect a goods transporting permit issued by LTTE. Police detected the forged notes when interrogating the six suspects at Kandy over a racket of selling vehicles from the South to buyers in the North and East.

The six suspects had 10 Rs. 1000 notes and six Rs. 500 notes found to be counterfeit.
