Amendments to Teachers' Service Act benefit over 125,000 teachers - All Ceylon Union of English Teachers

On a proposal made by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in the capacity of the Minister of Education, to amend the Teachers' Service Act in order to streamline promotions in the Service and fresh absorptions to the cadre was approved by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The Union's Secretary-General, M.A. Stanley Perera highly commending the President says that as a result of the above Amendments the Ministry of Education will in future be able to effect all promotions satisfactorily without a delay. This will also elevate the standard of Teachers' Service with immediate salary increase.

The Union added that as a result of repeated representations made by the All Ceylon Union of English Teachers (ACUET) together with a few reputed Trade Unions in the Island, it was possible to establish Sri Lanka Teachers' Service with massive salary scales in the year 1994.
