Religious structure in Trincomalee town unauthorised construction

The religious structure in the centre of Trincomalee town is an unauthorised construction, the Government Information Department said in a release yesterday.

Further to the Court Order issued on May 25, the Attorney-General on May 31 filed action in the District Court of Trincomalee to seek Court direction regarding the erection of the unauthorised religious structure.

Authorities have been instructed to submit immediately a complete report on other unauthorised religious structures along the coast, mainly in the Orrs Hill area of Trincomalee appropriate action will be taken subsequent to the report.

The Government intends to allocate state land and financial resources to construct places of worship in appropriate locations with approval according to needs of local communities and in consultation with them.
