Royal, Joes in U-13 boy's final

ROYAL and St. Joseph's rowers qualified for the final of the Boys
under-13 Scull on day two of the four-day Joes Sculling Regatta - 2005
held on the Beira Waters, Colombo Rowing Club yesterday.
In the preliminary round, C. Karunanayake of Royal did well to return
the best timing of 3.04 secs in the scull event. Karunanayake team mates
T. Jayatilleke timed 3.52 secs and D. Perera 5.04 secs.
Meanwhile Josephian scullers A. Bandara had a time of 3.17 secs and
R. Fernandopulle returned a time of 3.30 secs. On current form
Karunanayake is favoured to win the boys under-scull event final to be
held on Saturday.
In the Men's Open Scull the semi-finalists were found. Sri Lanka Navy
K.A. Chandana (4.18 secs) and S.A. Kumara (4.21 secs) recorded the best
timings.
K.A.R. Eranda of University of Moratuwa timed 4.26 secs and R.D.
Sisira (4.29 secs) and C. Aloysius (4.25 secs) of Sri Lanka Air Force
returned lower timings. The five oarsmen will row today in the semis.
The Oarswomen from Madras Boat Club, Ladies College and Musaeus
College entered the semis of the Girls under-17 Scull. The timings in
the earlier round were as follows: Gowri Adappa (5.24 secs) and V.R.
Sangamithra (5.12 secs) of Madras Boat Club. Amenthi Weerasinghe (5.13
secs), Gayani Boteju (5.25 secs), Shayari de Silva (5.36 secs) Taria
Navaratne (6.28 secs) of Ladies College. Uvini Atapattu (5.20 secs),
Sachithra Jayatilleke (6.04 secs), Gimami Widanagamage (6.00 secs) and
Naduni Perera (6.09 secs) of Musaeus College. The regatta will be
continued today from 2.30 p.m. |
