SLFP Central Committee approves resolution

THE Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) approved the following resolution unanimously, at its meeting held on May 19 chaired by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

The SLFP has briefed in a comprehensive manner all the leading office-bearers and activists of the Party at electoral, district and national levels about the Tsunami Relief Councils (TRC) and all matters pertaining to it and has obtained their full agreement to create the Tsunami Relief Council and to ensure its proper functioning.

The Central Committee of the SLFP strongly requests the President to commence all action without delay to institute the Tsunami Relief Council to undertake the rebuilding of infrastructure, damaged by the tsunami, in the North and East.

The SLFP Central Committee has proposed the mechanism for re-building areas of the North and East affected by the tsunami and for rebuilding the lives of the people in the said areas, should hereafter be called the Tsunami Relief Council and not the Tsunami Joint Mechanism as it is referred to now.
