CWC statement on the Joint Mechanism Proposal
THE Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) has welcomed the general pledges
made by the donors at the Sri Lanka development Forum held in Kandy.
The receipt of the assistance and the rehabilitation of the affected
people and reconstruction of the affected areas is the prime task at
hand today. It is necessary now to have the Joint Mechanism in place to
best utilise the assistance to be received, the CWC said in a statement
yesterday.
The CWC urged the President to proceed to implement the Joint
Mechanism proposal and carry forward the peace process.
The release:" It is unfortunate that the UNP opposition is not taking
a positive stand towards the Joint Mechanism to strengthen the peace
process.
It has become a historical tradition in Sri Lanka for opposition to
undermine efforts of governments to address the issues of the Tamil
people.
The UNP which was ready to consider the ISGA when in government, is
now talking of procedures, is seen as playing politics in the National
issue. The CWC calls upon all political forces in Sri Lanka to unite to
rebuild the Nation. |
