Conference on University Librarianship
THE University Librarians Association (ULA) will hold the first ever
"Conference on University Librarianship" today and tomorrow at the
Galadari Hotel.
Seven resource persons from the UK, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka are
expected to present professional views on how to utilise e-information
for teaching, learning and research in the international higher
education sector.
Two leading Sri Lankan academics will present papers on the current
priorities and challenges faced by the Sri Lanka University
Librarianship. Twenty-two international and local organisations have
sponsored this event.
Urban Development and Water Supply Minister and Deputy Education
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena who will be the Chief Guest will officially
open the conference today at 9.30 a.m. Prof. L.L. Ratanayake, acting
Chairman/ University Grants Commission will be the Guest of Honour.
ULA General Secretary R. Maheswaran said the conference proceedings
of this event will be published on the internet immediately after the
conference.
With 23 years of existence as a leading trade union for professional
university librarians, ULA is now moving into lead the University
library sector into e-information, resource sharing consortium and
developing professional skills among library staff. |
