Gamini Dissanayake Institute of Technology &
Vocational Studies, Nuwara Eliya:
Ambassador of Japan, Chief Guest at Awards Ceremony
THE Gamini Dissanayake Foundation was established in March 1995 and
has been functioning as a NGO since then. The primary purpose of the
Foundation is to educate underprivileged students and prepare them to
face the 21st century.
To achieve this the Gamini Dissanayake Institute of Technology &
Vocational Studies established in October 1995, where students were
selected on a scholarship basis and taught English and Computer Studies.
The course is designed for a period of one year and on conclusion the
successful students are granted a Diploma in Computer Studies and a
certificate in English Language.
The Gamini Dissanayake Foundation has through the Gamini Dissanayake
Institute of Technology & Vocational Studies been involved in training
students in job oriented skills for the past eighty years.
The Institute was functioning in Kandy for five years and then
relocated in Nuwara Eliya. Two batches of students of the Gamini
Dissanayake Institute of Technology & Vocational Studies, amounting to
174 have passed out since the Institute was relocated in Nuwara Eliya in
May 2002.
The Academic year 2004/2005 started on 09th June 2004 and the Awards
Ceremony for 84 students will take place on 28th May 2005 at 4.00 p.m.
at the Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya.
The Chief Guest of this occasion will be the Ambassador of Japan Akio
Suda and the Guest of Honour will be Sri Mega Wijeratne, Chairman -
Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka.
The Institute is now well equipped with a computer laboratory and an
auditorium. The teaching staff is also excellent and the computer
courses that are conducted are of a very high standard. Within one year
of work the Institute is also able to improve the standard of English
Langauge of the students. With this training the students gain
employment very easily.
They have been successful in getting good jobs in banks and other
business organizations and all students who have passed out are
gainfully employed.
The efforts of the Foundation are mainly directed at helping the
underprivileged students and also creating an atmosphere of ethnic
harmony, as students are from all ethnic groups. |
