Skills display by 'Pulathisi Daruwo'

THE 'Pulathisi Daruwo - 2005' educational exhibition, which will exhibit the talents of more than one hundred thousand students representing 233 schools of the Polonnaruwa District, will be ceremonially declared open today at the Royal Central College, Polonnaruwa.

The award ceremony and the concluding ceremony of the Pulathisi Daruwo 2005 exhibition will be held under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on May 29.


Preparations being made for the exhibition by the students of Polonnaruwa Royal Central College.

This exhibition is being organised by the Pulathisi Daruwo organisation for the second time under the direction of Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Mahaweli, River Basin Development and Rajarata Development.

One of the main features of the Pulathisi Daruwa exhibition this year will be the award of large sums of money for the winners of the exhibition stalls conducted by the school children.

The school which will organise the best exhibition stall in the district will receive a cash award of Rs. 500,000.

The schools which will be placed second and third will also receive generous cash awards to the value of Rs. 300,000 and Rs. 200,000 respectively.

The total cash awards to be presented to schools in the district at this educational exhibition will amount to approximately Rs. 2 million.

Sixty exhibition stalls out of the total 74 stalls in this educational exhibition have been allocated to depict the talents of school children.

51 stalls have been allocated to Maha Vidyalayas in the district, three stalls for primary schools and one stall for the informal educational sphere.

In addition, schools which have classes only upto G.C.E. (O' Level) will also organise exhibition stalls of their own.

Three stalls representing the Dimbulagala, Polonnaruwa and Hingurakgoda educational zones will be set up under this category.

A separate exhibition stall will be set up by the teachers of the district.

The exhibits produced by the Maha Vidyalayas will consist of items pertaining to science, technology, social science, art and sculpture.


Students of Al Azhar Vidyalaya, Polonnaruwa, gearing for the exhibition.

The science section will comprise exhibits in the fields of Biology, Physics, Maths and Computer Science, whilst the technology section exhibits will depict the advancements made in the fields of Agriculture, Commerce and Home Science.

The Social Science section will cover areas such as Geography, History, Social Studies, Economics, Political Science, Languages and Religion.

A special area has been set aside at this exhibition to display the talents of students in art and sculpture.

In addition to the numerous exhibition stalls conducted by the teachers and students of the district, the Ministry of Mahaweli and River Basin Development and Rajarata Development, the Mahawli Authority of Sri Lanka, the Anti Narcotics Division of the Police, the Traffic Division of the Sri Lanka Police, the Planetariam, the Department of Railways and a host of other government and non-governmental organisations will also have exhibition stalls of their own at this exhibition.
