Bangladesh abandons ferry rescue bid
DHAKA, Sunday (Reuters)
Bangladesh has abandoned efforts to salvage a river ferry that sank
with about 200 people on board during a tropical storm five days ago,
officials said on Sunday.
The end of the rescue attempt left the bodies of around 100 victims
believed trapped inside the ferry still in the water.
"Continuing bad weather has compelled us to take such an unfortunate
decision. We are very sorry... but were helpless," Captain M.
Shafiqullah, director-general of the Department of Shipping, told
