CR thrash Old Zahirians 87-0

CR and FC produced a magnificent performance as they cruised to another convincing 87 points to nil victory over Old Zahirians Sports Club in their Caltex inter club 'A' division league rugby tournament first round match played at Longden Place yesterday.

CR and FC virtually went on a scoring spree as they collected their points from eleven goals and two tries having led 28 nil at half time. This was easily the highest total in the tournament so far.

CR and FC never looked back after collecting 21 points from the first 20 minutes of play and added more misery on their opponents while scoring nine more tries during the second half.

Number eight Shamly Nawaz began the try spree with a superb blind side move which was followed by three more tries from M. J. Mushtaq, Asanga Rodrigo and Mohamed Sheriff.

Shamly Nawaz again set the pace with an early try during the second half but it was dynamic wing three quarter M. J. Mushtaq who stole the limelight scoring three more tries in the second quarter.

In addition full back Danushka Pushpakumara powered his way to score two more tries while second row forward A. Dharmatilleke, prop forward S. Swarnatilleke and flanker A. Karthelis scored a try each for the winners.

Full back Danushka Pushpakumara and fly half Asanga Rodrigo converted four tries each while Mohamed Sheriff converted two and substitute Roshan Peiris converted one try. Orville Fernando refereed.
