Entire Tripitaka in Pali to be recited next year

The Buddha Gaya centre of the Maha Bodhi Society of India has made
arrangements to recite the entire Tripitaka in Pali by the Maha Sangha
from Sri Lanka. Myanmar and Thailand under the Great Sri Maha Bodhi tree
adjacent to the Vijrasana or the Diamond Seat where Prince Sidhartha
attained Enlightenment over 2500 years ago.
The Tripataka, canon of the Three Baskets which includes Vinaya
Pitaka deals with monastic rules and moral disciplines. The Sutta Pitaka
contains all the discourses of the Buddha while the Abhidhamma Pitaka
deals with the higher philosophy of the Buddha was re-written at
Aluwihara, Matale in Sri Lanka early in the sixth century after the
Buddha (around 25 B.C.)
The recital is scheduled to take place in the month of February next
year.
According to Ven. Palawatte Seevali Thera. Bhikkhu-in-Charge of the
Buddha Gaya Maha Bodhi Centre the Sutta Pitaka will be recited by senor
monks from Sri Lanka the Abhidhamma Pitaka by Ven. senior monks from
Myanmar (Burma) and the Vinaya Pitaka by senior monks from Thailand.
Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Maha Thera will lead the Sri Lankan
group of monks in reciting the Sutta Pitaka.
Ven. P. Seevali Thera is planning to leave for Thailand and Burma to
invite the Maha Sangha from those countries.
It is expected that around 800,000 Buddhist devotees from India and
abroad to participate in this mega event.
High Commissioners and ambassadors from the respective countries have
promised to extend their support at government level to make the
recitation of the Tripitaka a success. |
