Sinhala/Tamil E-mail system
According to the concept of the Minister of Science and Technology to
introduce technology to villages, the 'Vidatha' programme was
introduced. With regard to this, there will be more than 300 Vidatha
centres throughout the country. This was prepared to enable use of
Sinhala and Tamil email and web; the necessities to help technology
transfer to villages through Vidatha Centres.
Software with a Sinhala use interface and a handbook was compiled for
the very first time in Sri Lanka by Information Technology division of
Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies. It is prepared, so
that even without using any word in the English language can use email
and web easily.
From the very beginning, the advice and guidance of Dr. Gihan Dias,
Senior Lecturer, Computer Science and Engineering Department of
University of Moratuwa was received to successfully fulfill this work.
Since there is software with a Tamil user interface already in use, any
one can easily use email and web in any of the three languages he/she
wishes to use. Also, interchanging from one language to another can be
done instantly with the same computer.
In the future, it is expected to introduce this software to the
Vidatha centres and other departments and institutes. Further, the
Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies is prepared to solve
any problems which may arise while using the software and further
develop utilization. |
