Madras BC rowers here for Joes Sculling

Six schoolboy rowers, three boys and three girls from Madras Boat
Club will compete at the third Joes Sculling Championships to be held
from May 25 to 28 on the Beira Waters, Colombo Rowing Club. The regatta
is conducted by St. Joseph's College.
Three girls R. Fazilla, Gowri Adappa, Natasha Duraiswami will row in
for events in the under-13, under 15 and under-19 age groups while the
three boys R. Niroop, Ajay Subramanian, B. Atul will participate in five
events in the under-15 and under-19 age category.
M. R. Ravindran who has represented Madras Boat Club in major
regattas will be the manager cum coach.
The rowers from Royal, S. Thomas' College, St. Joseph's College,
Ladies College, Musaeus College, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka Navy,
Air Force, Old Joes and Colombo Rowing Club have confirmed their
participation at the regatta.
The events to be held are: Boys and girls under-13 sculls (500 metres),
under-15 sculls (1,000 metres), under-17 and under-19 sculls, double
sculls pair and fours (1,000 metres). Oarsmen and Oarswomen under-24 and
open, sculls, double sculls, pair, fours.
All events will be rowed in the fibreglass sculling boats. The
respective institutions are expected to make their own arrangements for
boats for training and competition purposes.
The heats of all events will be worked off on May 25, 26, 27
commencing at 2 p.m. on each day. The finals will be on May 28 starting
from 1 p.m.
Challenge trophies, medals and certificates will be awarded to the
overall champions in the boys and girls under-17 and under-19.
Medals and certificates will be awarded to the under-13, under-15
boys and girls, under-24 and open, oarsmen and oarswomen. |
