CWC welcomes donor pledges

The Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) which has welcomed the generous pledges of donor countries towards post-tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction and has criticised the opposition UNP for not taking a positive stand with regard to the Joint Mechanism to strengthen the peace process. In a press release issued in this regard, the CWC has urged President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to go ahead with the Joint Mechanism proposal and also take forward the peace process.

Receiving the assistance for the rehabilitation of the affected people and reconstruction of the affected areas is the prime task at hand and a Joint Mechanism is necessary for that purpose, the CWC has stated. While in power the UNP was willing to consider the ISGA proposal of the LTTE, but now it is talking about 'procedures', it has been stated in the release. The CWC calls upon all political forces in Sri Lanka to unite to rebuild the nation.
