American award for elephant dung paper

Ranasinghe with his award in Palm beach, Florida, USA.

The manufacturer of "Maximus" paper products did Sri Lanka proud by winning the "Excellence in Social Responsibility Award" given by the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AFFA) 2005.

At the award presentation in Palm Beach, Florida, USA, "Maximus" Managing Director Thusitha Ranasinghe put Sri Lanka in the right perspective after the December 26 tsunami.

Maximus paper products are manufactured with elephant dung making the brand unique.

Thusitha Ranasinghe says "even though elephant dung cannot resolve the ongoing human elephant conflict in Sri Lanka, its economic use can give a new dimension to the way an elephant is perceived by farmers".

I thank the EDB for the opportunity given to me to take part in the international fairs that led me to this award. I also got an order for Euro 30,000 at the recently conducted "Paper World" fair in Frankfurt, Germany, another pioneering project of the EDB," he said.
