UNP trying to topple Govt. like Nero harping while Rome was on fire
- Deputy Minister Chandrasena
by Walter Dayaratna - Anuradhapura District Special
"Like Nero who harped while Rome was on fine, the UNP is trying to
topple the government oblivious of the endeavours of the President and
the government to salvage the economy of the country from the morass it
is in.
This action of the UNP is detestable" S.M. Chandrasena, Deputy
Minister of Social Services, Social Development and Women's Welfar, made
this observation at a special joint meeting of the SLFP representatives,
held at the party regional headquarters at Kekirawa junction in the
Horowpothana electorate.
"Unexpected things happen in our country today. The worst of them was
the tsunami disaster. The Government courageously faces all these
challenges and leads the country forward. In the recent past many houses
were damaged at Horana, Bingiriya regions owing to a cyclone. The
Government on the directive of the President promptly intervened and the
damaged houses were repaired.
There is an Opposition in our country. Great responsibilities are
cast on them. But their main concern is to gain some political mileage
regardless of the problems the people have to face. The Opposition is
anxiously waiting till the government falls. But it is a mere dream.
Even the lice on Ranil's head are unaware that many of his men are
deserting him.
There are disputes inside the UNP. What were happening covertly are
now happening in the open. Who is the organizer for Medawachchiya now?
One in the Horowpothana electorate is also about to give up. People are
not prepared to accept organizers that fall from the sky. However, it is
now crystal clear that Horowpothana will forthwith be a SLFP stronghold.
"The President appointed me to Horowpothana, as its organizer,
placing great confidence in me. I will never betray that confidence. I
will never part from the poor people of Horowpothana" the Deputy
Minister stressed.
R.A. Kiri Banda, Leader of the Opposition of the Pradeshiya Sabha,
Gamini Jayasekara of Kahatagasdigiliya and many other prominent party
organizers were present. |
