Victor Marambage, Talawa Group Corr.
"Maha Sangha has no discriminations on ethnicity of anyone. Whether
Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or Christians they are all
alike to us. We all living beings suffer in one way on the other. The
purpose of our visit is to share that suffering the tsunami victims live
with," said Ven. Mawathawewa Gunananda thera. Adhikarana Sangha Nayake
of North Central Province, addressing Muslim tsunami victims at Kinniya
3 in the district of Trincomalee.
Ven. thera with a group of Maha Sangha was delivering school -
stationery and food items collected by residents of Kumbakenda, Eppawala,
Maha Iluppallama and Endagala ares. Kinniya area is one of the most
affected places by tsunami in Sri Lanka.
"There is a struggle is Sri Lanka today to share the country and to
share the power. But unfortunately there is no struggle to share
suffering. Sympathy is a useless word in any language. What we should
foster is empathy. If we practise empathy no problem will arise," he
added.
We highly respect and appreciate the dedication of Maha Sangha. Today
they came to see our brothers, the Muslims in Kinniya. None of us have
seen them before tsunami. Tsunami, though so devastating has become a
power that united all three major ethnic groups in Sri Lanka.
Samasevaya has planned to build a Pre-School for children affected by
tsunami in Kinniya 3 with the assistance of the children, their parents
and the staff of King Alfred School, London. They have collected Rs. 3
million for the purpose and hope to continue assistance for the reset 10
years," said Samson Jayasinghe National Secretary Samasevaya.
The distribution of aid was held at the home of Abdul Careem Mahath
of Kinniya 3. Four volunteer nurses from Belgium were present at the
distribution. A. R. M. Fareed, Samurdhi Development Officer Kinniya made
the vote of thanks. |
