National health care exhibition
by Edward Arambewela
All past Health Ministers of Sri Lanka since independence including
Dr. Ranjith Atapaththu, Renuka Herath, Sunethra Ranasinghe along with
present Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will jointly declare open the National
Healthcare Exhibition on May 13.
Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva Director Private Health Sector Development,
who is organising this three day exhibition together with the National
Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka Conventions (NCCSLC) told the Daily News
the objective of this exhibition was to show and educate the people that
health was not a single entity but a combination of factors. "It is
really an outcome of unity of forces; food, clothing, shelter, education
etc.
All these entities play vital role in health. As such the Health
Ministry alone cannot handle this task effectively unless it gets the
active support and cooperation of all sectors in the Government and in
society too. This is the message we want to impress upon the public and
demonstrate too by all the past Ministers of Health despite their
political differences jointly cutting the ceremonial ribbon to open the
exhibition."
Dr. De Silva said visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the
various modern healthcare facilities available in the private sector, as
almost all these institutions have taken up stalls and are participating
in the event.
The objectives of the exhibition are
* To create awareness among the general public, professionals and
students of new technologies, new products & services in the health care
sector offered by both public & private sector health care institutions/
agencies and to provide a market for same.
* To display in detail projects available for investment in the
health care sector, in order that investors would take up such projects.
* To introduce best practices in the health care industry. This will
be done through presentations during the exhibition.
* To create a common platform for buyer, seller meetings.
"Arogya 2005" would be the meeting point for professionals,
businesses and the general public, which will create opportunities for
new players to enter the market to promote quality services and new
technologies, Dr. de Silva said. |
