NCPA hunts for children's home director
by Nadira Gunatilleke
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) conducts further
investigations into a case on malpractice at the Kithulampitiya
Children's Home after its director fled to Thailand, a NCPA spokesman
said.
He said that the NCPA successfully collected adequate evidence
against the management of the Kithulampitiya Children's Home after
conducting investigations.
The Special Police Unit of the NCPA conducted investigations followed
by some allegations against the management of the home. The home is run
by an NGO called `Helix Foundation'.
Daniel Curry and Michele Curry, a husband and wife duo operate as the
director and the consultant of this foundation, but the husband who is
the director is an alleged criminal wanted by the US Government.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect (husband) is an alleged
child molester. His passport is also suspicious.
The wife allegedly maintains a bank account under her name pretending
that funds are being used for the welfare of the children and also
invited the general public to donate money and deposits in the same
account.
It is also revealed that the tsunami relief received by the home has
not been used appropriately.
The suspect (husband) has refused to sign the statement given by him
to the special police unit of the NCPA and fled to Thailand on the
pretext of going on a business trip when the NCPA returned with a court
warrant from the Galle Magistrate's Court to get his signature. |
