Ward Place heroin case :

Prisons Commissioner ordered to produce medical report

Colombo High Court Judge Upali Abeyratne yesterday ordered Prisons Commissioner Rumy Muazook to produce a medical report for the first accused of the Ward Place Heroin case who was nabbed with 23 Kg of heroin.

The Court ordered the Commissioner to produce the medical report by the Prison Medical Officer for the main accused, Mohommad Samoon Mohamed.

The Court made this order following a bail application filed by the accused through President's Counsel Faiz Musthapa on April 27.

The accused in the bail application stated that he was taken into custody with his wife and another person at Ward Place on November 28, 2003.

He stated that he was suffering from numerous ailments and due to lack of facilities at the prison he is unable to take treatments. He pleaded the Court to grant him bail.

After considering the application the Court ordered the Prisons Commissioner to forward a medical report for Mohommad Samoon on his health condition before the Court.

In this case, the Attorney-General indicted Mohommad Samoon Mohammed Shiyam, his wife and another close aide of his for possessing of 23 Kg heroin at Ward Place on November 28, 2003. The Police Narcotics Bureau made this arrest.
