Germany's CBM to assist in tsunami reconstruction
Recently the Director of Christian Blindenmission (CBM) which is a
large German NGO assisting the Blind and Visually Handicapped in the
developing countries pledged their support for tsunami reconstruction
work in Sri Lanka.
CBM's Director, Martin Georgi who was in Sri Lanka recently met with
Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapakse and said that CMB would give financial
support to their local partners in Sri Lanka to re-build two fishing
villages destroyed by the tsunami.
The Prime Minister also asked, Mr. Georgi to keep him informed of the
progress of another CBM project. It is planned to construct 350 houses
and to rebuild 70 more in the fishing village Kudawella near Tangalle in
southern Sri Lanka. According to the Prime Minister, a major issue in
Kudawella, as well as in other rebuilding efforts, has been the scarcity
of land, particularly of government land. "Once the land issue is
resolved, this project would make a very significant impact," he said.
CBM Germany's director Martin Georgi was making a ten day visit to
projects supported by CBM in Sri Lanka, and was accompanied by a
delegation of the city of Nuremberg for the first days. Mr. Georgi who
is also an expert in media and fund-raising is available for live
interviews on his mobile ++ 49 172 634 473. |
