Political parties, trade unions celebrate May Day tomorrow

MAJOR political parties and trade union movements will celebrate May Day tomorrow at various venues throughout the island.

The three major parties will hold their rallies in Colombo. Some political parties will conduct rallies in major provincial cities.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party led Peoples's Alliance will hold its May Day rally this year under the theme "National unity for the country's development". The rally will be held at Galle Face Green. It also coincides with one year in office of the UPFA Government.

Several leading artistes are due to perform at the May Day rally, which will lay emphasis on consolidating the gains made by the Government during the past year and wining the due rights of the working class.

The demonstration will commence at 12 pm at Campbell Park and wend its way through Borella Junction, Punchi Borella, Maradana, Elphinstone Theatre, Technical junction, Olcott Mawatha, Pettah, Fort and Old Parliament road before entering Galle Face Green. The rally will commence at 4 pm.

The United National Party will hold its May Day rally at Town Hall grounds, Colombo from 3 pm. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will hold the rally at its traditional venue, BRC Grounds in Colombo.
