Jaffna journalists for South India and UK
 

Sixteen Jaffna journalists who are following the Diploma Course in Journalism conducted by the Jaffna University and funded by the government of Denmark have been awarded scholarships to go to South India to follow a three week internship in the leading Tamil dailies in South India.

Among the sixteen, two have been selected to go to UK and follow a three week training with the BBC.

After the training they will return to Sri Lanka to continue the Diploma Course which ends in May 2006. The Danish government has opened a Media Research Training Centre (MRTC) in Jaffna with active co-operation and guidance of the University of Jaffna.

Professor A. Shanmugathas the former Professor of Tamil Jaffna University and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Jaffna University is functioning as the co-ordinator. The Diploma Course is followed by working journalists in Jaffna on week-ends. It has been proposed to start a Diploma Course for non-journalists too in 2006.
