India, US sign MoU on maritime transport science and tech

NEW DELHI (PTI) India and the US signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of maritime transport science and technology last week. The Memorandum was signed by Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu and US Transport Secretary Norman Y. Mineta.

The MoC envisages cooperation and collaboration in the area of shipping and inter-modal operations, maritime safety and security, port management, and dredging and dredger construction, Secretary Shipping D.T. Joseph told PTI.

The agreement also covers areas like ship recycling, maritime training and education, technological developments related to maritime sector, inland water transport and other areas of mutual interest. The US has experience in growth and development of maritime resources which can be utilised by India in R&D, safety, security, maintenance and entry into specialised area of shipping, he added.
