Awareness programmes on Federalism
The Forum of Federations of Canada will coordinate with the Peace
Secretariat for Muslims in order to raise an awareness about federalism
related issues among the Muslims. The Forum will design and implement
programs on federalism aiming at various sections of the Muslim polity
and civil society.
A delegation from the Forum of Federations led by its President and
former Prime Minister of Ontario, Bob Rac and David Cameron, acting Vice
Dean, Undergraduate Education and Teaching of the University of Ontario,
Mr. Jean, Phillipe Linteau, Political Officer of the Canadian High
Commission in Sri Lanka and Priya Sood, Program Manager (Governance) met
with the officials of the Peace Secretariat for Muslims in Colombo. They
discussed ways and means of working together in order to explore model
of federalism that would address the Muslim needs in the Sri Lankan
contest, a release by the Peace Secretariat for Muslims said.
The delegation welcomed the formation of the Peace Secretariat for
Muslims and stated it would greatly benefit the peace process by helping
to evolve a common position for Muslims when peace talks eventually
commence.
Associated at the talks on behalf of the Peace Secretariat for
Muslims were the Leader of the National Unity Alliance and Minister of
Housing and Construction Industry, Eastern Province Education and
Irrigation Development, Ferial Ashraff, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress
Leader, Rauf Hakeem, Secretary General of the Peace Secretariat for
Muslims, Javid Yusuf and A. M. Faiz, M. M. Abdul Kalam, M. H. M. Salman,
S. M. M. Yaseen and M. T. Abdul Kalam.
