Alcatel partners mobile container exchanges for SLT

Alcatel will expand its operations in Sri Lanka as it considers South
Asia as an important area for its operations said Alcatel's South Asian
President Ravi Sharma on Tuesday .Speaking at the official hand over of
a mobile container solution for Sri Lanka Telecom, he said that there is
a big digital gap to be bridged in the telecommunication sector.

The high tele-density in Sri Lanka which is as high as 18% compared
to India , is another positive factor that encourages investment in this
sector.
Sharma said that the supply and installation of this large and
innovative containerised telephone exchange facility was another step
Alcatel has taken to strengthen its partnership with SLT and showed the
commitment of Alcatel to the development of the telecommunications
sector in Sri Lanka.
The E10 MM( multi service multi media ) container solution has been
in operation as a new telephone switching system that helped reconnect
the people of Hambantota to the rest of the island in the aftermath of
the Tsunami which destroyed the telecommunication facility in the area.
Through this containerised solution Alcatel in partnership with SLT
have provided the people of Hambantota a more viable and permanent
telecommunication facility which restores connectivity with the rest of
the country.This mobile telecommunication exchange facility provides
connectivity for 15,000 subscribers in the South in addition to
functioning as a mobile unit which can be transported to any location in
case of emergency.
This Mobile Unit is equipped with power supply , AC, testing and
Software to guarantee an easy integration with existing network
components offering customised and differentiated services. |
