CCC missions to Romania and Czech Republic

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is leading a delegation to participate at 'TIBCO 2005', the International Consumer Fair scheduled in Bucharest, Romania from June 1 to 5, a Chamber spokesperson said. To coincide with this event, the Chamber would also lead a Trade and Investment Promotion Mission to Romania and the Czech Republic.

The main objective of this mission is to strengthen trade ties, establish business links, source suitable business partners for trade, investment, joint ventures, technology transfer and services.

The CCC stall at 'TIBCO 2005', would be projected as the Sri Lankan Pavilion. The stall will spread across 60 square meters, and would be located at a prime spot at the Exhibition Center. CCC's presence at the Fair would be through the courtesy of Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Romania in Sri Lanka Nicolae Aldea. The stall will focus on Sri Lankan traditional and non-traditional products and the tourism sector.

As per statistics obtained from the Department of Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka's major exports to Romania include tea, desiccated coconut, natural rubber (Brown Crepe), retreaded tyres, tyres and tubes, garments, leather products, metal and plastic furniture.

Statistics also indicate that Sri Lankan exports to Romania have increased by a 58% during the year 2004. Industries such as gem and jewellery, tourism, handicrafts, and coir fibre pots also have great potential in the Romanian market.

A CCC spokesperson stated that they are targeting 10 exhibitors for the Sri Lankan Pavilion. Exhibitors would also be permitted to sell their products during the event. The final selection of exhibitors will be by the Chamber.

Czech Republic has also been identified as an emerging potential market for Sri Lankan products. The balance of Trade between Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic has been in favour of Sri Lanka for several years.

Reports indicate that the main exports include rubber products, tea, garments, gems and jewellery, ceramic products and coir products.
