Kashmir dispute could erupt again: Musharraf
NEW DELHI, Monday (AFP) - The dispute over Kashmir could erupt again
unless a solution is found that is acceptable to India, Pakistan and
Kashmiris, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said Monday, ruling out
a military option.
"Unless we resolve the dispute it can erupt again under a future
frame," Musharraf told Indian media before wrapping up a three-day visit
to India.
"It is the Kashmir dispute which needs to be analysed for a solution
that is acceptable to all three," he added.
"That is where 'out-of-the-box' thought must go on. We have to arrive
at a solution acceptable to all parties involved - India, Pakistan and
the people of Kashmir."
The general added, however, that the time of going to war over
Kashmir was over.
"The military option is not the option anymore," he said. "I think it
is a changed atmosphere. The world has changed ... very much especially
after 9/11.
"There was a time when ... we used to talk geopolitics more than
economics. Now the world is so focused on economic development - that is
a major change that has come in the world." |
