Sabaragamuwa PC nets Rs.173m in additional revenue

The Revenue Department of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has
recorded a total revenue of Rs. 625.6 million for 2004. This is an
increase to its estimated target which was Rs. 452 million for the same
year. It was able to collect additional revenue of Rs. 173.6 million in
2004, which was the highest additional revenue earned by a provincial
council for that year.
Revenue Commissioner of the Revenue Department of the Sabaragamuwa
Provincial Council M.A. Chandrapala said that the department collected
Rs.46.3 million additional revenue from four items including turnover
tax, stamp duty, drugs and chemical tax and the mineral tax.
The Department has been able to collect Rs.182.7 million from the
turnover tax while its estimate was Rs.180 million. The total revenue
collection from stamp duty was Rs.118.1 million while the total revenue
from drugs and chemical tax was Rs.169, 000. The Department has also
collected Rs.75,000 as revenue from mineral tax.
"We have collected a total revenue of Rs.318 million from those four
items while its estimate was Rs.255.5million in 2004. " The department
has played a key role in bringing revenue for the government to develop
the country. It has also targeted to earn additional revenue this year
by implementing proper operations and programs," Chandrapala said. |
